Which is better fantasy or reality?

My Dear Readers,

I was infinitely insulted and shocked by what happened to me today. I heard someone say that I should live more in the real world and that fantasy and magic is crap. That made me angry. I mean I have known great movies and books set in fiction and Fantasy and as an Author of the YA Fantasy Romance genre it hit me hard. So, I decided to speak out against this question.

“Excuse me, but I write YA Fantasy Romance and real life is not always fun. It can be scary and hurtful and painful, ” I said.

To what I heard, “But you can’t live in Fantasy all the time”

You know what, living always in the real world without wanting to escape somewhere.  The real world can be dangerous and hurtful and painful. It is true that real life has some good moments too but if we stop reading, stop watching movies about fantasy, stop dreaming about what can be the worst thing is that you become too focused on bills and responsiblities that you forget about it at all. Actors and musicians and writers and filmmakers would just be unnecessary.

My question is, “Do YOU want to live in a mundane, black and white world where fantasy and magic as well as all forms of art and music and film are reality based, or not existent at all?”

I know that as an Author, this subject hit me hard in my feelings because I can’t imagine life without fantasy, or even watching one real life based movie because I would just breakdown crying. I don’t argue that reality is bad but really we have to know how much of the real world each of us can handle. I know that I can’t handle much of real life. There are things that real life throws at us whether we want it or not and sometimes it becomes too overwhelming.

Like Marnie (Kimberly J Brown) in Halloweentown 2 said, “For each of us, our own path decide…”

I may not know much but I believe that too much real life is harmful to the brain because the brain becomes tense and being too stressed is not good for anyone. But again, believing in fantasy is just a way to celebrate the imagination of someone. Don’t limit yourself to the real world, keep believing in Fantasy because we all need it, (some people more than others).

I look forward to hearing from you soon. I thank you all for your infinite support.

Yours truly,

Diana Rose
