An Author’s Lesson #1: Starting OVER

My Dear Future Readers:

Today, I am starting something that I think would be helpful to everyone. I’m going to talk about the things that I have learned as I continue on my journey to becoming a Full-Time Author.

When you feel like your story is going nowhere fast…what can you do but leave it alone. It is hard to know if it is a good idea or not. But you just need to work at it. Especially if it is a brand new idea. It may turn out great. You never know if you don’t try.

I wanted to tell you that starting over on a clean paper is the scariest thing a writer because when you look at a blank page it holds a lot of possibilities but also a lot of uncertainties. The first blank page in a document for an author is like an unexplored   landscapes.

Sometimes, starting a new idea is fun but not when something you write does not fit with the rest of your idea.

I have found that starting over is not simple as starting a new Word Document. It is also rethinking your idea and making it sound good. Sometimes, your idea just needs to be organized so you can see it clearly.

Messing up the “flow” of your story when you start out is something that everyone struggles with at first but it doesn’t have to discourage you to put your idea in the trash. Yes, I agree that some ideas are trash worthy sometimes but not all of them. It is just a matter of how you perceive the worthiness of your words.

It is worthy to others if it is worthy to you first. So, the key is to  believe in your writing and make your idea stand out.

Starting over can be good for that.

Key 1: Find What You Can Save….

This means that in your story beginning, there has to be something that might be useful for you to use in the process of starting over.

Key 2: Try Again

Start writing again. No fear of messing up. It should not matter if you do. Writers write and write  a lot. Yes, it may seem like a tedious job to most people but it is very calming work to those writers.

It is  said that if you fall you should get up and try again. That is what most writers have to do with their writing. Do not give up on writing just because it is hard at times. Just wait until you start to edit. Then you will want to scream but chances are you will…The most important thing is not to give up .

Try, Try, Try again.

Nothing comes easy on the first try so yes, starting over is scary but not impossible.  Rewrite that section and go forward.

Don’t let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game.

Publishing a book is harder than anything so all you have to do is keep writing. Keep your ideas organized. Keep writing.

I look forward to hearing from you soon. I thank you all for your infinite support.

Yours Truly,

Diana Rose
