My Dear Future Readers,
Today I want to talk to you about something fun. I have been doing this,in my Author Group for a while now. I place excerpts from my recent work in progress with pictures and let people read it. You can see that here: Discussions with Diana Rose and Her Future Readers. I was planning on starting doing that here on my blog as well, I just have to figure it out and if people would be interested in it.
Lesson 17: Creating Excerpts
To create an exciting excerpt from your book, you need to figure out where you want to cut it off. Now, cutting off makes people intrigued to read more. But it doesn’t give away the rest of the story. Excerpts help to introduce readers to your book but they are a bit larger than teasers which arexonly a quote long.
To be honest, I was always afraid of sharing text from my work in progress because it wasn’t published. I was also afraid people might not like it because it isn’t finished and unedited. But….as I began to talk with more authors and see what they are doing, I started to understand that readers enjoy reading excerpts.
So, I decided to see how you, my future readers would like my work in progress as well. I tried it in my group. I choose a new character every Wednesday to let my readers and group members get acquainted with the characters I’m writing about.
I hope you will like it here too. I can’t really explain it more because you need to see it to know what I’m talking about.
Who’s excited for excerpts?
I look forward to hearing from you soon. I thank you all for your infinite support.
