My Dear Future Readers,
Today, I want to talk to you about something important. I think the way you write your books depends on how your readers will read them.
Lesson 13: Point of View
Point of View is an important part of the writing process. Most books are written in third person which makes the book more objective to the reader. I have read very few books that are written in first person.
I believe that usinf third person makes the book less attached to to the author. What does that mean?
It means that the person telling the story is not interacting with the characters in the story.
However in first person, the narrator is a part of the story. But this is form of writing is used very rarely because readers don’t like hearing the word “I” all the time. Of course, it depends on the reader.
Of course, there is a third choice. It’s called the second person narrative. Now second person is about the word “you.” Which is why it is used more in conversation than anywhere else. Which is the reason why second person is not so widely used in literature as a point of view rather as,a,conversation.
First person: “I am going to the park. I want to see the swans in the lake. I should put on a jacket first.”
Second Person: “You and I should go to the show in LA.”
Third person: “Sam is going to the pool with a friend. She wants to take swimming lessons. Jack told her he would be there to show her the pool. “
Point of View is very different as you can see from the above example. No. I don’t write in first person. I never did because it focuses on only one person. Whereas, third person can focus on many at a time. Books like names and for characters,to be identified.
Now, I’m not saying any of these are wrong. I’m saying that if you use “I ” too much the story loses it’s appeal to the reader. Now, there are places like in thoughts or dialogue where you can use the word “I” in books but that’s all. If indeed it is a good author who knows how to write well.
I hope you find this helpful.
I look forward to hearing from you soon. I thank you all for your infinite support.
